Iwate Numamiyauchi Station is a Tohoku Shinkansen station located in Ninohe City, Iwate Prefecture. There are many places to see around the station, including nature and hot springs.

First, within walking distance from the station is the Ninohe City Museum, where you can learn about the history and culture of Ninohe City. In particular, the exhibit of “Ninohe silverware” made in Ninohe City is a must-see.

Also, about a 30-minute drive from the station is a mountain called “Kinkasan. From here, you can see the city of Ninohe and the Hachimantai mountain range in the distance. It is also famous for its cherry blossoms in the spring.

In addition, about 20 minutes by car from the station is Numamiyauchi Onsen-kyo (hot spring resort). The hot springs are free-flowing and boast one of the largest amounts of hot spring water in Iwate Prefecture. There are also many hot spring inns in the area, where you can relax and unwind.

Ninohe City is also known for its apples. The “Ninohe Apple Festival” is held in the fall and attracts many people. There are also stores selling apples near the station, which are recommended as souvenirs.

Michinoeki Ishigami no Oka (Michinoeki Ishigami no Oka) is a roadside station on National Route 4 in Iwate-cho, Iwate-gun, Iwate Prefecture. Its nickname is 40 degrees north latitude, Iwate-cho.

Kitakami-gawa gensen Iwate-machi river station (北上川源泉いわてまち川の駅)

The Iwate-machi “River Station” is located in the Mido district in the northern part of Iwate-machi, near the Yuhsu spring, which is said to be the source of the Kitakami River. The Kitakami River is 249 km long, the fifth longest in Japan and the longest in Tohoku. Visitors can enjoy the quiet healing scenery, play in the babbling brook, and stroll around the lotus pond.

Mido-shinden Waterfall (御堂新田の滝)

Mido-Shinden Falls is located on the Kutsuki River about 2.5 km east of Mido-Kannon, and is 8 m high and 10 m wide. Visitors can enjoy the seasonal scenery.

Also known as “Tamabuki no Taki Waterfall,” the water cascading down from the large bedrock in three streams like a ball is a tribute to its graceful beauty. Legend has it that “a beautiful village girl turned into a big white fish and went upstream from this waterfall. This is a spot where visitors can refresh themselves with forest bathing and negative ions.

The Iwate Town International Stone Sculpture Symposium, which began in 1973, has been enriched with each passing year, and the works created at the symposium are installed around the Iwate Town Sculpture Park, bringing enrichment to the hearts of visitors. Every year, several artists, including some from overseas, use the town’s black granite as the main material for their works, which are exhibited from mid-July to mid-August. Visitors can feel the profound color of the black granite, the various expressions of the works from time to time, and the energy of the stone in abundance.

Ishigami-no-Oka Museum of Art (石神の丘美術館)

Ishigami no Oka Art Museum is an outdoor sculpture museum. A roadside station “Ishigino-Oka” is also installed.

The walking area on the slope of Mt. Ishigamiyama (326 m above sea level) is home to sculptures that allow visitors to feel and become familiar with the nature of the satoyama, as well as lavender and other plants that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons. In the “Forest of Flowers and Art,” visitors can enjoy more than 100 varieties of flowers and plants, including lavender, which is at its best from late June to early July.

In addition to outdoor exhibits where visitors can casually enjoy a picnic while appreciating the arts, the gallery offers special exhibitions, a studio where visitors can experience art not only by looking at it but also by making it, and various events, making it a base for art and cultural activities rooted in the community. It is an art museum where people of all ages, from young children to the elderly, can drop by anytime and feel art close at hand.
