Shiroishi Zao Station is a Tohoku Shinkansen station located in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture, and is surrounded by rich nature, historical buildings, and hot springs.

First of all, the Shiroishi Castle ruins are located near the station. Shiroishi Castle was built in the Edo period (1603-1867). The castle keep and other structures have been reconstructed, and the view from inside the castle is spectacular.

The area is also surrounded by rich nature, including the Zao mountain range, and there are many mountain climbing courses in Shiroishi City. Among them, Mt. Zao, which is climbed via the Zao Echo Line, is one of the leading mountain resorts in the Tohoku region and offers beautiful scenery from season to season.

Shiroishi, Ningyo no Kura (白石・人形の蔵)

Masuoka Park (益岡公園)

Zaō Fox Village (宮城蔵王キツネ村)

Miyagi Zao Fox Village is a private zoo and theme park in northwestern Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture, that mainly exhibits foxes. 250 foxes of six species are kept in the park, more than 100 of which graze in a large enclosed forest.

Foxes have a habit of digging holes and lying on the ground, and because of this habit, in the grazing area, foxes are often covered in mud, especially after rainfall, except during winter when snow accumulates. In addition to the pasture area, there is also an area where visitors can directly hold an echinococcus-free fox that is raised indoors, which is considered a rare experience worldwide and attracts foreign tourists. From around Golden Week, visitors can also hold a baby fox. In addition to foxes, visitors can also interact with rabbits and other animals.

Although there is a high possibility that wild foxes are infected with echinococcus, all of the foxes at the park are artificially bred and are regularly treated with deworming agents and the facilities are sterilized to prevent humans from becoming infected orally with echinococcus.

Kessanji Temple (傑山寺)

Kesan-ji Temple, which belongs to the Myoshin-ji school of the Rinzai Sect and whose principal deity is the Nenge Shaka Nyorai, is a historic temple founded in 1608 by Kagetsuna Kagezuna, lord of Shiroishi Castle, as a family temple of the Kagezura family.
