East Forest (東の杜)

Since 1988, the (former) Higashi no Mori Museum, which had been used as an exhibition and reference center for historical and folklore materials, was extensively renovated and opened as an arts and culture exchange facility.

The facility has a Japanese-style appearance, utilizing an old family brewery that has been in the community for generations, and can be used for a variety of activities as a place to pass on traditional performing arts and arts and culture, as well as a place to learn about the community from historical materials and develop a love of the local area.

There is also a Morino CAFE where visitors can enjoy light meals using fu, a specialty of Higashine City, and Morino HAKO, which sells souvenirs from Higashine City, among others.

Ryukoteranuma Park (龍興寺沼公園)

This park is rich in water with a zelkova tree that is over 1,500 years old. This park was built on the ruins of Higashine Castle and is located on the banks of the Ryuuko-ji Swamp. Yatsuhashi (eight bridges) are hung over the swamp, and benches are placed along the water’s edge, designed for visitors to get close to the water. At night, the area is lit up, creating a fantastic atmosphere that is different from that of the daytime. It is also known for having the largest zelkova tree in Japan, which is more than 1,500 years old, and its divine appearance is overwhelming.

Donomae Park (堂ノ前公園)

Dono-mae Park is a park located in Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture. It is located at the foot of Snake Mountain in the eastern part of Higashine Onsen.

There are approximately 300 cherry trees in the park, including Someiyoshino cherry trees, mountain cherry trees, and weeping cherry trees, making it a cherry blossom viewing spot during the cherry blossom season. In the center of the park, there is a swamp, an observatory from which visitors can view the northern part of the Murayama Basin, and a grassy plaza.

Higashine Asobia Land is an outdoor play facility located in Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture.

It is a space where children can spend their time freely while experiencing the four seasons. Using their five senses, such as earth, wind, fire, water, grass, and wood, children are interested in various things and find out what they “want to try” to play. Through trial and error, challenge, and failure, the child grows at his or her own pace.
