Nasushiobara Station is a Tohoku Shinkansen station located in southern Tochigi Prefecture. There are many sightseeing spots in the surrounding area, including places of abundant nature and hot springs.

First of all, there are many hot spring facilities in Nasushiobara City, including the Nasu Royal Hotel and Nikko Kasokyo Onsen. Nikko Kaso-kyo Onsen is located about 40 minutes by bus from Nasushiobara City, and offers an open-air bath with a beautiful view of the valley and an indoor bath with the fragrance of hinoki cypress. In addition, the Nasu Royal Hotel has one of the largest indoor hot springs in Japan, the “fountainhead hot spring,” where you can spend a relaxing time in a natural hot spring.

Furthermore, Nasu Animal Kingdom is located in Nasu Shiobara City. Here, visitors can interact with approximately 500 kinds of animals, which is enjoyable for both children and adults. Makikari Pot (巻狩鍋)

The Makigari pot monument is located at the west exit of Nasushiobara Station. It has a log stool and a water tap, making it an ideal meeting place.

“Makigari” is a technique in which a warrior shoots his prey by surrounding it and hunting it down. It is said that the meat of deer, bears, foxes, etc. obtained in this way was cooked in a pot and eaten.

Roadside Station Meijinomori Kuroiso (道の駅 明治の森・黒磯)

Meiji no Mori Kuroiso (Michinoeki Meiji no Mori Kuroiso) is a roadside station on the Kuroiso Tajima Route, Tochigi Prefectural Road 369, located in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture.

The Nasushiobara Aoki Furusato Products Center is located next to the former Aoki Family Nasu Villa (designated as a National Important Cultural Property), the villa of Shuzo Aoki, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and other posts. In front of the Aoki villa is the “Hanna Garden” where seasonal flowers are in full bloom. The farm market offers a wide selection of fresh vegetables, local eggs, highland milk, and specialty products. It is the perfect place to buy souvenirs from Nasu. You can enjoy a meal at the farm restaurant & ice cream factory “Aoki no Mori Café” and the bakery.

Higashinasuno Park (東那須野公園)

The park is planted with approximately 20,000 hydrangeas, 130,000 daffodils, and 400 cherry trees, and attracts many visitors during their blooming season. The beautiful pink cherry blossoms and lovely yellow daffodils are a must-see. From the top of the park, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Nasu Mountains, and there is a “first class triangulation point” marker near the top of the park. The park can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, such as strolling and picnicking.

Momijidani Suspension Bridge (森林の駅/もみじ谷大吊橋)

Forest Station is located in the eastern part of Shiobara Onsenkyo and is a tourist attraction famous for one of the longest suspension bridges in Japan.

The Momijidani Suspension Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in Honshu, spanning the Shiobara Dam Lake in the lower reaches of the Broom River, and is 320 meters long. There are various types of suspension bridges, but ordinary bridges are equipped with rigid girders to support the load on the suspension bridge. This suspension bridge is not a rigid girder, but a pedestrian suspension bridge with a structure in which wire ropes are stretched horizontally to increase the strength of the suspension bridge.

The magnificent scenery surrounding the suspension bridge is a new attraction of Shiobara Onsen, different from the valley beauty of the Broom River flowing through the mountains. Visitors are welcomed by beautiful scenery in every season, spring, summer, fall, and winter.
