Tonko Inari Shrine (呑香稲荷神社)

A highly prestigious shrine located in Kudo Castle. It is called Tonkou Inari-jinja, which means “Tonkou Inari Shrine. This unusual name means “Kagayakeru Hills” in Ainu, and the shrine is located on the site of the Matsunomaru of Kudo Castle. Since the shrine was built in 1682, it has been revered by the lords of the Nanbu domain for generations, making it one of the most prestigious shrines in Ninohe. The spirit of Masami Kudo rests here. Masami Kudo Shrine is located in the precincts of the shrine. The head shrine is located in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, where Masami Kudo spent his final days, but it was moved to the Ninomaru area of Kudo Castle and then to the Matsunomaru area in 2001. The shrine is dedicated to the spirit of the famous general, Masami Kudo. In the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate, a private school called “Kaihosha” was located here, and many energetic young people studied there.
